Case Study: High Profile City Hotel

Following a thirty month, $200 million investment programme, this prominent hotel re-opened for business in 2005 creating one of the largest hotels and conference spaces withint a hotel. A high level of security and vigilance is of paramount importance. The operators were concerned about theft, unsuitable characters, violent and distasteful behaviour .

Despite heavy investment in the architecture and fit-out of the building, the hotel was using an older conventional CCTV security system. No staff member monitored the system live and as a result the system was purely forensic, of little value forensically and no real time value at all.

The management were never completely confident that all incidents were being captured and reported. So, to enhance and protect their large investment, the hotel trialed iSentry.

Solving the problem

A select number of critical cameras were chosen to use the iSentry unusual behaviour detection system. With its unique ability to learn about the environment, the system actively looks for unusual behaviours and instantly brings them to the attention of an operator. Video footage from these cameras is stored locally.

The remainder of the cameras are viewed within the iSentry system, but monitored using standard playback functionality.

Video footage from all the cameras is then sent to an iSentry Monitoring Unit with two screens. The first screen displays alerts from the cameras that use the Unusual Behaviour detection system. In addition, the footage from the remaining cameras is displayed simultaneously on a second, larger monitor, which incorporates a facility to view a single camera or all cameras.

The iSentry system has resulted in the capture and reporting of many important incidents which otherwise might have been missed:

As a direct consequence, some of the hotel's processes have been modified.
